What is RSS?
RSS feeds allow you to quickly scan the latest highlights from websites you frequent in a spam-free way. Through RSS (Real Simple Syndication), your personal reader is constantly updated with new content from websites you have identified.
How do I find an RSS Reader/Aggregator?
Several types of free readers are available. Some are accessed through a web browser, some are integrated into email programs, and some run as a standalone application on your computer. Popular web browser readers include: My Yahoo! and Google Reader. Some browsers such as Mozilla Firefox and Safari also offer integrated RSS readers. Visit your email provider, such as My Yahoo! or Google and download an appropriate RSS reader or do an online search to find a reader you deem suitable.
How do I find out if a website has an RSS feed?
It is getting more common for websites to provide RSS feeds for their viewers. Websites will generally indicate the existence of a feed on the home page or main news page with a link to RSS, or sometimes by displaying an orange button with the letters XML or RSS. These feeds can also found by a "Syndicate This" link or text RSS links (there are lots of variations). Many RSS readers/aggregators come preconfigured with a list to choose from of RSS feed for popular news websites.
How do I subscribe to RSS Feeds?
1. You will need to set up a RSS reader/aggregator for your feeds.
2. Find content on your favorite websites with the RSS or XML feed icon.
3. By clicking on the RSS information icon, you can use the URL to subscribe to the feed with your RSS reader/aggregator.
How do I add a feed to my RSS reader?
The exact procedure depends very much on the capabilities of your RSS reader, but basically it is as follows:
1. Using your web browser, go to the website you want to follow and look for the XML or RSS image.
2. Right-click the icon and click Copy Shortcut (Internet Explorer) or Copy Link Location (Firefox), or the equivalent for your browser.
3. Start your RSS reader software.
4. Look for the button, link or menu that says "Add a Feed" or similar.
5. Paste in the URL you copied in step 2 (either right-click in the field and click Paste, or click the field and press Ctrl+V).
6. Click OK or Add to add the feed.
The website feed should now be added to your list of feeds in your RSS reader. Repeat these steps for each website feed you want to add to your reader.
