What materials do you recommend for use in landfill gas wells?
HDPE was commonly used in landfill gas collection systems for a long period of time. But, HDPE acts a lot like a drinking straw, if it bends at a certain place and kinks it will forever kink at that same point. PVC (polyvinyl chloride) doesn’t have the same flexibility as HDPE and, if subject to size loading, it will crack, but even if it cracks it still functions as a gas well. It doesn’t impede the ability to pull gas, and most of the time having a crack in the casing doesn’t prevent you from getting a pump down well. For those reasons, PVC seems to be quickly replacing HDPE as a permanent material.
