How Do I Calibrate My MP20

  • Always make sure the sensors are clean before calibrating.
  • If the MP20 should fail calibration please refer to the MP20 manual.

NOTE: For more detailed instructions on any of the processes below or if a failure of any of the calibration processes occurs, please refer to your MP20 Manual which came with your MP20. Should you require any further assistance please contact QED Customer Service at 1-800-624-2026.

Quick Calibration

To Start:
Tab to the “calib” Icon and press Enter.

1. Temperature - No calibration required.

2. Specific Conductance - Calibration

a. Pour conductance standard (mS) in the calibration cup, to the thin etched line at the top.
b. Allow 60 seconds to pass.
c. Arrow over to “calib,” then push “Enter.”
d. Arrow down to “SPC,” then push “Enter.”
e. (“SPC” flashing) Arrow up, or down to “Standard Value Calibrating,” then push “Enter.”
f. Push “ESC” (Escape) to read
g. Process is complete. Rinse calibration cups and sensors.

3. Dissolved Oxygen %, Saturation, or D.O. % - Calibration

a. Locate rubber cap as it will be required.
b. Fill the calibration cup with tap water, or DI water, to the D.O. sensor’s O-ring.
c. Use a tissue to dab off any droplets of water on the membrane.
d. Allow 60 seconds to pass.
e. Arrow over to “calib,” then push “Enter.”
f. Arrow down to “DO%,” then push “Enter.”
f. Arrow up, or down to achieve “BP” reading for the sampling location, then push “Enter.”
g. Push “ESC” to read
h. Push “Enter,” this takes you to the second screen for “DO%” reading. Push “Enter,” to return to the main screen.
i. Process is complete. Rinse calibration cups and sensors.

4. pH - Calibration

a. Check the MP20 temperature, to see if pH compensation is required.
b. Pour in pH 7 up to the top of the calibration cup.
c. Allow 60 seconds to pass.
d. Arrow over to “calib,” then push “Enter.”
e. Arrow down to “pH,” then push “Enter.”
f. If necessary arrow up, or down, to reach value of pH7.
g. Push “Enter,” then push “ESC” to read.
h. Rinse cup then fill to the top with pH 4.
i. Allow 60 seconds to pass.
j. Arrow over to “calib,” then push “Enter.”
k. Arrow down to “pH,” then push “Enter.”
l. If necessary, arrow up, or down to reach value of pH4.
m. Push “Enter,” then push “ESC” to read.
n. pH 10 is not calibrated, only read.
o. Fill clean cup to top with pH 10 and read.
p. Standard should read between 9.8 pH-10.2 pH after 60 seconds
q. Process is complete. Rinse calibration cups and sensors.

5. ORP - Calibration

a. Check the MP20 temperature in the Main Screen.
b. Pour in recommended “Zobel Solution” (Ag/AgCl) to the top of the calibration cup.
c. Allow 60 seconds to pass.
d. “Zobel Solution” is used to calibrate “ORP” value using the “Temp Compensation” chart.
e. Push “Enter” to go to “calib” screen.
f. Arrow up, or down to reach the value that matches the one found on the “Temp Compensation” chart, then push “Enter.”
g. Push “ESC” to read. Must read in second screen, push “Enter” again to do so.
h. Push “Enter” again to return to the Main Screen.
i. Process is complete. Rinse calibration cups and sensors.

6. Turbidity - Calibration

a. This first calibration will mark the low end. Fill cup approximately ¾ full of D.I. water, shake then empty
b. Refill cup ¾ full of D.I. water, or overtop of opening in sensor and wait 60 seconds.
c. Push “Enter” to go to “calib” screen.
d. Arrow up, or down to “Turb” then push “Enter,” (“#” will be flashing).
e. Arrow up, or down to adjust “#” to zero for the first calibration then push “Enter.”
f. Push “ESC” to read. Must read in second screen, push “Enter” again to do so. Screen should now read zero.
g. Second calibration will mark the high end of 100 NTU. Rinse cup thoroughly, then pour a small amount of 10 0NTU solution, shake then empty.
h. Refill cup with 100 NTU solution to top of sensor, disperse all bubbles before calibrating.
i. Push “Enter” to go to “calib” screen.
j. Arrow up, or down to “Turb” then push “Enter,” (“#” will be flashing).
k. Arrow up, or down to adjust “#” to 100 for this calibration then push “Enter.”
l. Push “ESC” to read. Must read in second screen, push “Enter” again to do so. Screen should now read 100.
i. The third calibration will mark the middle of 50 NTU. Rinse cup thoroughly, then fill cup with 50 NTU solution to top of sensor.
k.This is a read value only, no calibration is required. Wait 60 seconds, then read “Turb.” Reading should be + or -5% + 1 NTU. Refer to MP20 Manual, page 1.2) under “Specifications Accuracy.”
l. Process is complete. Rinse calibration cups and sensors.

Full calibration should now be complete.
