Is using polypropylene tubing less effective than using Teflon.
Is using polypropylene tubing less effective than using Teflon.
It depends on the mode in which you are using it. Teflon certainly is considered to be the most inert plastic material we can get least chemically reactive. That being said, polypropylene and even polyethylene can be very close to Teflon. If it's a dedicated system most likely the tubing is in chemical equilibrium with the water that surrounds it. However, again, our studies have shown that as you are purging the well, there seems to be very little effect on the tubing from that. There is a very good study published in 1985 by Barcelona in analytical chemistry that showed the differences in tubing materials. The absorption rate for polypropylene and polyethylene while slightly higher than the Teflon was still comparable. So, polypropylene is an acceptable material especially in dedicated mode.
