Are there potential issues with introducing liquid into the landfill, such as it causing a reduction in gas flow in the wells?

If you are recirculating leachate, or amending the leachate with additional liquid like in a bioreactor site then, yes, you will see some lateral movement of leachate. It is either going to pond or move along the layers of daily soil cover out to the gas wells and then there will be more accumulation. It's almost an automatic expectation that if we put liquids into the landfill through recirculation or through amendment we will build up more liquid and, in turn, reduce gas flow. But, will we reduce gas flow through the waste mass itself? No. Generally speaking, unless the waste is completely saturated (above 55% moisture content) we are not going to have any problem pulling the gas out of the landfill itself. It's going to find its way through the waste mass even if there are pockets of liquid. But the key here is to keep the gas wells themselves open.
