How do you deal with a LFG well that has kinked about 40 feet below grade and is watered in?
Depending on how bad the kink is it may be possible to get a small diameter air-powered pump down well. Unfortunately, if the well is completely kinked off and its 40 feet below grade and the liquid level is even deeper than that, there is probably no solution because you’re not going to be able to use a suction level type pump. But, what I generally recommend is to make what’s called a dummy pipe or a test pipe in the diameter of a small air-powered pump, for example, about 1.7” outside diameter and about 3 feet long. Put it on the end of a strong cable or rope and see if you can lower it down into that landfill gas well past the kink and to the liquid level. If you can, you can now try to get an air-powered pump in the well that will do the job. Keep in mind that a small diameter air-powered pump isn’t going to provide a lot of flow rate – you will be limited to about 1.5 to maybe 2 gallons per minute at 40 feet. But, 2 gallons per minute of liquid removal is more than what you have right now, and it may potentially solve the problem.
