Innovation Boosts Performance in LFG Wells: Why Not Yours?

orp wellhead

Two years ago a new generation of landfill gas wellheads started to revolutionize the LFG landscape. Easy Access Well Caps in QED’s distinctive yellow* color have appeared all over the country, embraced and adopted by the leading landfill operators as well as by energy production companies. This and other new technologies from QED are being utilized in thousands of wells in the most challenging applications.

QED is the market leader in equipment for landfill gas wells because they are constantly advancing the technology available to landfill operators. The latest advantages include more durable glass-filled polypropylene components and UV-resistant flex hose, and soon QED will be introducing port covers with tethered, screw-on caps. All offer easier use and much longer service intervals, even in the most hostile site environments.

Besides its many technical advantages, all equipment is supported by QED’s outstanding history of innovative engineering, customer service, field installation, and technical and after-sale support. Just one example: every wellhead is leak-checked before shipping. And now QED’s engineering department is reinforced by Graco Inc., the leader in fluid management.

There are numerous reasons why this new wellhead system has had such an extraordinary impact. They include:

  • Ease of use – unlike union orifice plate wellheads, the plates for the Precision Quick-Change Orifice Plate Wellhead (U.S Patent Number 8,800,597 and Patents Pending) can be changed without opening the wellhead, which exposes workers to landfill gases and odors. A half-turn of the ergonomic winged collar releases the orifice plate for quick and easy changes. And now, the plates are color-indexed so it’s easy to see at a glance what size plate is in use.
  • Greater control – it’s much simpler to control the flow of each well with the Precision Fine Tune™ Control Valve (U.S. Patent Number 8,800,597). Adjusting flow rates is quick and easy even below 10 SCFM.
  • Keeping the wellhead on – the whole system is engineered so that most operational tasks can be accomplished without removing the well cap. This protects the environment both inside and outside the well, reducing odors, preventing exposure of workers to hazardous gases, and keeping oxygen out.
  • Superior durability – numerous wellhead components are constructed of high strength, engineered glass-filled polypropylene to withstand the harshest conditions at any landfill. Components last longer, reducing replacement and maintenance costs.
  • Innovative technology – for 30 years, QED has been bringing equipment to the market that is not only new, but significantly better than the alternatives. From the wellhead at the top to the tubing and pump at the bottom, your wells will perform better with QED technology installed.

If your landfill is not using QED for its LFG well systems, you have the opportunity to make a significant difference in the performance of your operations. Improve productivity, cut labor and maintenance costs, and reduce worries about compliance all at once.
