Extended-duty Piston Pump For Viscous Fluid Pumping
July 2006 -- A new piston-type pump for downhole landfill and remediation applications has been developed by QED, adapting proven oilfield pumping technology for enhanced durability. The new pump, called Iron Horse , has been demonstrated in extreme conditions at landfills, and is now available in two sizes.
Piston pumps are seen as the most effective pump technology for specialized applications such as: highly viscous fluids such as at manufactured gas plants; slant and horizontal risers; pumping to extreme low drawdown levels; depths beyond the range of other pneumatic pumps; and where air / liquid contact in the pump is undesirable due to precipitate formation.
Iron Horse piston pumps incorporate a number of important design features to reduce the frequency and cost of maintenance: extensive use of heavy duty, serviceable stainless steel parts to reduce wear; oversize, all-stainless steel oilfilled-type piston that requires no seals, eliminating the most frequent cause of pump breakdowns and service; reciprocating drive unit is fully enclosed for safety and protection of both on-site personnel and the pump components; and key components such as the liquid check valves and the drive air cylinder are field serviceable rather than throw-away.
