A natural byproduct of landfills is the production of digestive gases. These gases, primarily methane and carbon dioxide, with trace balance gases, are considered very strong greenhouse gases. In fact, while we hear about reducing our carbon footprint by minimizing carbon dioxide release, methane is more than 20 times more potent as a greenhouses gas.
